Keeping children occupied during the summer weather can be quite a challenge and draining exercise. Children are usually full of energy and need a lot going on in order to tire them out. In the summer this can be particularly difficult when they have a few months off school and parents are generally still working. The weather in the UK is also very unreliable therefore trying to plan outdoor activities around this may not be viable. Here are some suggestions of activities children could do during the school holidays.
Trampolining
An activity that has risen in popularity over the past few years is trampolining. You can buy Children’s trampolines for pretty low prices in many retailers. Seeing these in back yards nowadays is pretty common and usually these have protectors around them for the safety of the users. It is a common scene to see children playing on trampolines in the UK summer weather (in fact you see many adults doing this also). If the weather then gets bad then you have the opportunity to go to one of the many trampoline centres around the country where these are indoors. This can be a really joyful family day out and keeps people active.
Football
The most popular sport in the UK is football. Playing this sport is relatively cheap and easy and most people are no more than a stone throw away from a football pitch or field. Generally these type of pitches are free and can be used by anyone however there are also football clubs for both males and females where people can play. These start from a very young age and don’t cost a lot of money. The money will generally go towards things like a football strip or to cover some of the travel or locker room costs. These teams also sometimes connect to bigger clubs and scouts may be in attendance allowing this to potentially become a career opportunity for the children if they have the correct skills.
Summer School
There are actually some areas where they offer summer schooling where the children can continue their learning over this period. You will find though that a lot of this is consumed with a different form of education i.e. the children are not sitting in a classroom but are more doing projects or sports. There are usually costs associated with this but not significant. This also helps with babysitting. If the parents are not getting the same amount of holidays as their children then if there is no one to watch them, this becomes an option.
Army Cadet
If your child is at the proper age then why not get them to join the Army Cadets during the summer holiday. Here they will learn discipline and participate in a lot of activities. There does not require to be any ambition to join the army by the child however if this is something they desire to do then there would be good guidance and help with this. During the summer there are summer camps that will involve lots of sports, leadership activities and things to keep them amused.
